Makcik (Aunty)


Makcik (Aunty) showcases various happenings at home discussing the concerns of the society portrayed by the elder women of the Malay community. Readapting scenes from P. Ramlee’s famous films like Ibu Mertuaku, Madu Tiga, Tiga Abdul, Masam Masam Manis, Do Re Mi, Bujang Lapok and Musang Berjanggut, each image addresses family issues, marital disputes, and conflicted beliefs in religion and cultural practices. Stereotypically labeled to be conservative and traditional, Makcik centres as a subject focus to represent the social attitude towards the common struggles faced in the Malay society in Singapore.
